Injection moulding at 185–215 °C, mould temperature 80–100 °C. Highly susceptible to thermal degradation (release of formaldehyde above 230 °C). High shrinkage (1.8–2.5 %) → appropriate mould design is essential. No pre-drying required if stored correctly.
POM is a recyclable thermoplastic. Recycling is limited by its sensitivity to thermal degradation. Depolymerisation allows for the recovery of formaldehyde. Recycled grades exist for non-critical applications.
POM-FDA grades are approved for food contact (cold and hot water). Used in taps and kitchen equipment. Check the specific grade with the supplier.
