PA (Polyamide) 66
✓ This material meets the criteria ~ Specialized grades may meet this criteria
| Density | 1.08 to 1.14 g/cm³ ISO 1183 |
|---|---|
| Charpy notched impact | 0.55 to 10 kJ/m2 |
| Flexural modulus | 3000 MPa |
| Flexural resistance | 100 MPa |
| Tensile modulus | 3300 MPa |
| Tensile resistance | 85 MPa |
| Tensile strain | 20 % |
Injection at 270–310 °C, mould at 80–100 °C. Pre-drying required: 6 hours at 85 °C. High processing temperature → higher energy consumption than PA6. Anisotropic shrinkage (0.8–2.0 %), compensated for by reinforcements.
PA66 is recyclable. Depolymerisation into hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid is industrially feasible. Mechanical recycling is used for automotive production waste.
PA66 can be approved for food contact for specific grades, but applications remain limited. Prefer PA6-FDA for common food applications.
Choose the right material for your application by comparing Nylon 6,6 to alternatives on thermal, mechanical, chemical and cost criteria.
