Frequently asked questions
Injection at 200–250 °C, mould at 50–80 °C. Pre-drying required: 4 hours at 80 °C (hygroscopic). Fragile material, sensitive to residual stresses. Low shrinkage (0.2–0.8 %). Well-polished nozzles required.
PMMA can be recycled by depolymerisation back into pure MMA monomer – high-value chemical recycling. Mechanical recycling is possible but degrades transparency. Applications in building and signage.
PMMA is approved for indirect food contact (specific FDA, EFSA grades). Suitable for food displays without prolonged direct contact with acidic or fatty foods.
