What Is Injection Moulding?

Plastic injection involves pushing a molten material into a steel mould, where it cools, and then the products are extracted and finished. Plastic injection enables small or large volumes of parts, from the simplest to the most complex, to be manufactured quickly and continuously.

Plastic materials are constantly adapting to new constraints, making plastic injection an alternative to machining or 3D printing processes. Plastics are versatile and can be adapted to suit product specifications. There are many families of thermoplastics, ranging from commodity materials to engineering plastics. These include PVC, ABS and polypropylene, as well as polycarbonate (PC), polyamide (PA) and materials such as PEEK, PEI, PEKK, PPS and PBT for more industrial or demanding applications. New types of so-called 'bio-sourced' plastics are also very much on the cards, although be careful not to confuse bio-sourced with recyclable. Finally, there are plastics that conduct heat or electricity (low voltage/amperage).
